Boiled wool is not only derived from a sustainable and all-natural source (sheep), but it is also manufactured without added chemicals and remains recyclable.   Naturally, wool offers at least 10% more breathability to the wearer when compared to other performance-oriented materials derived from synthetics. Wool is naturally water resistant, and next to waterproof and windproof when designed via the boiled wool method. Even when wet, wool continued to insulate, unlike down-filled insulating layers. Wool is also extremely durable and naturally rugged in tough mountain environments.

   The wool in this sweater is harvested from free-ranging sheep living the high-life up in the Norwegian mountains of Hallingdal from June to September. After the harvest, it respectfully spun and knitted in Italy. The tough fibers from the Norwegian sheep are developed to withstand the rugged climate which gives this sweater just the right weight and protection for us enjoying the same rugged territory.

Made with a durable 80D face fabric and a GORE‑TEX ePE (expanded polyethylene) membrane that’s light, strong, and PFC-free, it delivers lasting waterproof, windproof, breathable protection with a reduced carbon footprint. The C-KNIT backer adds comfort, and the low-profile StormHood adjusts with a quick pull to provide coverage and maintain lines of sight. Articulation removes restriction, and an embedded RECCO reflector can aid in search emergencies. This product is free of intentionally added PFAS. The new ePE membrane technology is lighter and thinner, but just as strong and durable as the materials we used before.   You may notice the face fabric “wetting out” slightly faster in products with ePE membranes, but rest assured this does not affect the waterproofing of the membrane itself. If you notice the fabric wetting out faster than you’d like, simply wash the jacket and dry it to remove the oil contamination and bring the DWR back to its full power.
